UPDATE on 2021 Summer EBT and Child Care P-EBT (1)Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we know that programs such as Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) have been successful in providing students and their families with needed grocery money while students were learning from home throughout the 2020-2021 school year.

We are excited to announce that the Cabinet for Health and Family Services has received approval to issue P-EBT benefits to eligible children ages 0-5 and summer EBT benefits for eligible children ages 0-5 and those in school.

Summer EBT:

  • Available to eligible children for the summer of 2021 while children are not in school.
  • All children who received P-EBT during the 2020-2021 school year are eligible.
  • Benefits will be loaded onto P-EBT cards or SNAP EBT cards if the family receives SNAP benefits.
  • Benefits will be one lump sum of $375– schedule of benefits will be issued the week of August 23rd.

Child Care P-EBT for children ages 0-5:

  • Available to eligible children for the months of October 2020-May 2021.
  • Children are eligible for each month that they were age 0-5 (up until their 6th birthday) and a part of a household with an active SNAP recipient.
  • Benefit amounts will vary and are based on the predominant learning style of the local school districts in their area (entirely virtual or hybrid).
  • Benefits will be credited to the SNAP EBT card for the family.
  • Benefits will be spread out over several weeks – expected to be issued after July 31st, every other week.

The Cabinet for Health and Family Services developed a FAQ for Child Care P-EBT.

If you need any assistance, call the Department for Community Based Services call center at 855-306-8959. You will need to have the student’s full name, date of birth, and State Student ID (SSID) number when you call.

This post will be updated as new resources becomes available. Visit the Cabinet for Health and Family Services P-EBT webpage for more information.

UPDATE: FeedingKY and KyPolicy have put together an updated Outreach Toolkit, including new social media graphics, printable FAQ documents, and additional materials from CHFS. Please share these resources with advocacy partners, schools, child care centers, and other stakeholders who may want these additional tools to promote the program and inform parents of this incoming grocery money.

There are six other states that have been approved. Ky is still under a state of emergency, so why won’t they move faster. Thank you for any information you have.

They need to be adding monthly dates for the fall school year. This pandemic isn’t going anymore anytime soon by the looks of it and even kids who are going in person are having to constantly quarantine at home f possibly exposed. This program seems to be all over the place. You can check for months and there will nothing then out of the blue a lump sum. Hopefully they will continue, but set up a better system that makes more sense. So many depend on this, yet have no idea if and when they will get it.

As of October 1, 2021 they said that they were extending the pebt back to the full amount possible for snap benefits. So, why aren’t school children getting them. They seem to need them more. They also said that schools could apply for them. Why do they wait so long, and then have to go and back date them? Why can’t they just have a system put in place and go forward not backward? Look at how long the kids had to wait last year. How is that going to work anyway? Just about every school is in person, with 1/3 of the students being virtual by choice. So does that mean only virtual students get them?

I have custody of my 12 yr old granddaughter as of May 2021 and was not aware of the pebt food benefits. She was enrolled in this program before she came to me and her card was stolen by her parents. I have applied for a new card for her as of Oct 19. Is there anything I can do to regain her pebt benefits that were stolen?

I had a child who was enrolled in school during the pandemic and graduated may 2021. I also had another child July 2019. I recieved the pebt benefits for the child enrolled in school, but have never received anything for my other child who is now 2. Was I supposed to receive food benefits for her as well this whole time?

Some kids not enrolled in school were eligible for P-EBT benefits. Families who participate in SNAP and have a child younger than five should have received P-EBT benefits on their existing EBT card. If you have further questions, you can call DCBS at (800)372-2973.

Yes I m wondering why it is taking so long. The year is almost over and they still have nothing in place. Yet they are giving out full allotments for snap benefits. Not everybody qualifies for snap but still need a little help when their children are all virtual. It would be nice to have a time frame. Plus 22 other states have already been approved, so what is taking so long????????????.??
